Plank Off

Plank Off

Here’s a fun game made for 2 or more competing teams, that ends with a face off!

Players: 2+

Equipment: None or Cones

Game: Create 2 or more teams each with an even number of players (2 is easiest).  Have teams placed in such a way that they can see the other teams, preferable directly across from each other, and they have a cone or some marker that they will be running to (needs to be equidistant for all teams).  The game is played in rounds.  Every round each player on each team will need to complete their reps, then run to their team cone, and then run back to the start and drop into plank.  The first team to have all members done and back in plank wins the round.  If any team member drops out of plank, they need to then run out to the cone/marker and back before they can re-assume plank.  The reason you want the teams to see each other is so they can help police the planks and make sure no one “forgets” to do their run if they drop out of plank.  Less advanced players can plank from their knees.  The team that wins each round should either have their team cone moved further away or should be given extra reps in future rounds.  I usually do rounds similar to the following (adding more reps for the more advanced clients):

  1. Push-ups
  2. Squats
  3. Sit-ups
  4. Burpees

Variations:  After round 1, you can change plank to another exercise where they are able to hold for time, such as a wall sit, holding heels off the ground, or even an exercise like swimmers.
