Death by Dice

Death by Dice

This is a highly modifiable dice-based game for either individuals or teams…

Players: 2+

Equipment: Dice, Whiteboard (Boot Camp Equipment Guide)

Game: Can be played individually or in teams.  Write all players (or team) names on a whiteboard, as well as the numbers 1 – 6.  Write down the name of an exercise next to each number ( I like to reserve the harder exercises for the harder numbers).  Here’s a whiteboard after a (long) game:

Death by Dice Whiteboard

Whiteboard at the end of a long game.

Give each player one die, and then 3 or 4 dice of another color.  Set a timer for a length of time ( I use 5 – 10 minutes).  On “go” players will roll ALL their dice.  The TOTAL OF ALL DICE will be the reps they have to complete, while the single die of it’s own color will represent which exercise to complete.  Tally a score for each player as they finish each set – or make them do it if you have a big wall-whiteboard.  You can make this harder by adding more dice or by adding a run to the end of EACH SET.  I also like to make a rule that once you have rolled the same exercise 3 times, you can re-roll if you land on that again in the future.

Variations:

  • One Run to Rule Them All: Setup a cone somewhere far from where you are playing.  Whenever a player rolls a one for their single die, they must run to this cone, regardless of what the other dice are.
