Hustle and Throw

Hustle and Throw

Throwing-based partner game that gets the heart rate up and works the hand-eye coordination…

Players: 2+

Equipment: Tennis Balls (Boot Camp Equipment Guide)

Game: Partner each person with another player of similar ability in a large space and give each team a tennis ball.  If you don’t have a large space, this may be a better game.  Use cones to set up a finish line at least 100 yards away.  The goal of the groups will be to race their way to the finish line while tossing the ball to each other in a leap-frog fashion.  The partner(A) with the tennis ball will be doing cardio exercises while the other partner(B) runs past them to catch a pass from (A).  Then (B) stop and does reps, and so on, until one of the partners catches the ball beyond the finish line.  The wrinkle is that if the ball ever hits the ground both partners must stop and do 5 burpees :)

When using as a warm-up game, I like to use jumping jacks, high knees, or squats for the stationary partner’s exercise.  If I’m using it as a finisher, I will go with something more intense like squat jumps or burpees/squat-thrusts.  You can tell the teams to simply do the exercise while stationary (as soon as they catch ball they do reps until partner is ready for throw) or you can give each team a set number of reps each partner must finish before throwing.  This works nicely if you have a lot of teams of varying ability levels: give higher reps to more advanced teams.  Here’s a peek:
